Double Test Milestone For Worcs Star Moeen At Lord’s

Moeen Ali achieved two personal milestones for England on the second day of the first Investec Test against South Africa at Lord's.

The Worcestershire all-rounder completed 2,000 Test runs and followed that up by claiming his 100th Test wicket.

He becomes the second quickest England player after former skipper Tony Greig to reach those specific goals.

Moeen resumed on 61 and advanced his total to 87 before he was bowled by Kagiso Rabada after striking eight fours in his 147 ball knock.

He came to the wicket at 190-5 and was eighth out at 413-8 after another splendid innings.

Moeen reached 2,000 runs when on 73 at an average of more than 35 in what is his 38th Test.

Then, after England had been bowled out for 458, the 30-year-old got to work with the ball and picked up the prized wickets of Hashim Amla and stand-in Proteas skipper Dean Elgar.

Wicket number 99 came when Amla on 29 played back to a ball which spun sharply and was lbw.

Wicket number 100 arrived when Elgar on 54 got an inside onto the pad and the ball popped up to Gary Ballance at short leg.
