Worcestershire paceman Josh Tongue has created a favourable impression with former England paceman Mike Hendrick in his role as part of the scouting network for the ECB’s Player Pathway.
Hendrick has been running the rule over Tongue during the current Specsavers County Championship clash with Nottinghamshire at New Road.
It is the third time Hendrick has watched Tongue who has been a regular member of the Championship side in his first campaign of first team wicket.
He has so far taken 41 Championship wickets at 25.19.
Hendrick, who played in 30 Tests and 22 ODIs, popped into the BBC Radio Nottinghamshire commentary box to give his thoughts on Tongue – and another County paceman in George Scrimshaw.
He said: “I’ve seen Josh Tongue three times and he can bowl. He bowls it straight, he does a bit with the ball in and out, and when he gets his pace up is pretty quick.
“There are quite a few talented potential England bowlers knocking about.”
Hendrick, now aged 68, added: “Worcestershire have got another young lad called George Scrimshaw who looks a prospect as well.”
Tongue has represented England at Under-19 level while Scrimshaw was part of a Young Lions training camp in the UAE last winter.”
