ENGLAND WOMEN SEAL ODI SERIES AT BLACKFINCH NEW ROAD

england women sealed the royal london odi series when they moved into an unassailable 2-0 lead after defeating west indies by 121 runs via the duckworth-lewis-stern method at New Road.

england totalled 233-7 in 41 overs after their innings was interrupted by a lengthy delay for rain.

the west indies were set an initial target of 244 under the dls method and this was then revised to 209 in 28 overs after a second rain interruption.

the tourists were restricted to 87-6 as england followed up their 208 win in the first odi at the fischer county ground with another emphatic victory.

it was a fitting way for laura marsh to celebrate her 100th odi appearance for england.

the player of the match was anya shrubsole who hit 32 off 16 balls with the aid of two sixes and two fours.

shrubsole then followed that up with two wickets and a final analysis of 5-3-12-2 as she and kate cross – 2-4 in four overs – picked up early wickets.

marsh (1-14) and skipper heather knight (1-22) were the other wicket-takers.

england opener tammy beaumont laid the foundations for england’s impressive final total by making 61 off 83 balls.

england had raced to 73-1 from just 16 overs when play was delayed for 90 minutes by the elements.

after the resumption leg-spinner afy fletcher picked up three wickets in beaumont, sarah taylor and knight.

the final match in the series will take place at chelmsford on tuesday.
