England Women Stars At New Road As Part Of National Cricket Week

England women cricketers Tammy Beaumont, Charlotte Edwards, Lydia Greenway, Jenny Gunn and Danielle Wyatt will join 300 schoolchildren at New Road on Tuesday (June 23) for the second day of Yorkshire Tea National Cricket Week.

The day, organised by Worcestershire Cricket, will start with a mass assembly before the children get the chance to play on the hallowed turf alongside taking part in other cricketing activities around the ground.

The event is one of six flagship media events taking place across the country to celebrate Chance to Shine’s national celebration of cricket in schools.

Thousands of schools have registered for Yorkshire Tea National Cricket Week, through their local County Board, and are planning cricket-themed lessons in class, coaching in the playground, competitions at local cricket clubs and beach cricket festivals.

Since 2005, Chance to Shine has brought the educational benefits of cricket to over 2.5 million children, including a million girls.

The charity has a new mission to spread the power of cricket to schools and communities, inspiring at least one million more young people to play and learn through cricket.

Edwards and her team-mates will be returning to New Road on July 26 for a One-Day International against Australia as part of the Ashes this summer.
