Former Worcestershire all-round Shakib Al Hasan was in form with the bat for Bangladesh as they launched their World Cup campaign with a 105 run win against Afghanistan in Canberra today.
Shakib, who enjoyed two successful spells at New Road in 2010 and 2011, was his side's second top scorer with 63 as Bangladesh totalled 267 all out in their 50 overs.
He faced only 51 balls and hit one six and six fours and shared in a fifth wicket stand of 114 in 15 overs with Mushfiqur Rahim (71).
Slow left armer Shakib then two wickets for 43 runs in 8.5 overs as Afghanistan were bowled out for 162 in 42.5 overs.
Shakib played a major role in Worcestershire gaining promotion to Division One of the LV = County Championship in 2010 as the first Bangladesh cricketer to play county cricket.
At that time he was officially the world's leading one-day all-rounder in the ICC rankings and it was another astute overseas signing by Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes.
Shakib picked up 35 wickets in eight Championship matches including a career best 7-32 at Lord's against Middlesex who were bowled out for 66.
He returned for a second spell in 2011, this time primarily for T20 cricket, and was the county's joint leading wicket-taker alongside Gareth Andrew with 19 victims in the competition.
But Shakib also made a telling contribution in the one Championship match he played, scoring 54 and taking seven wickets in the nine wicket win over Hampshire at New Road.
