Former Worcestershire paceman Kabir Ali's Lancashire career has been cut short by a shoulder injury which is set to sideline him for at least six months.
With new Lancashire head coach Ashley Giles looking to confirm his squad as he plots a return to the top flight, the club and player have agreed to his release.
Kabir, who left New Road after the 2009 season, required surgery on his shoulder after the injury flared in the NatWest T20 Blast semi-final against Hampshire.
The right-armer, who turns 34 next month, took 75 wickets in all formats for Lancashire after arriving at Emirates Old Trafford ahead of the 2013 season.
“Whilst Kabir has only been with Lancashire County Cricket Club for two years, he has made a significant contribution, particularly in the one-day formats,” Giles said.
“The injury came at a really unfortunate time for him and we would all like to thank him for his contribution at Emirates Old Trafford. We wish him well for the future.”
Kabir was Lancashire’s leading wicket-taker as they made their run to the Blast final, for which he was replaced by Andrew Flintoff following his injury.
He is now set to focus on his rehabilitation before deciding his next move.
“I have had an enjoyable time at Lancashire and I have made some good friends along the way,” he said.
“My injury came at the wrong time and I will assess my situation after my rehabilitation in six months’ time.”
