Ex Worcs Ccc Players Part Of Side To Celebrate Ray Julian 80Th Birthday

Former first class umpire Ray Julian will celebrate his 80th birthday with a match involving several ex Worcestershire players taking on host club Dumbleton on Sunday July 31 (11.30am to 6.30pm).

The Ray Julian X1 will include former New Road trio Martin Weston, Gavin Haynes and Ducan Catterall.

Other ex county cricketers taking part will be Mike Smith and Mark Hardinges (both Gloucestershire), Kevin Dean (Derbyshire) and Matt Cleal (Somerset).

Hardinges is now the master in charge of cricket at Malvern College and has been a guest speaker at one of the Worcestershire Cricket Society's winter evenings.

Ray enjoyed a distinguished career in the first class game both as a player and umpire.

He played for Leicestershire as a wicket-keeper between 1953 and 1971 and was a first class umpire from 1972 until 2001.

Lunch and tea will be available at £25 per head including coffee on arrival with cheques made payable to Dumbleton CC.

There will also be a raffle and the bar will be open all day.

For anyone interested in attending, Dumbleton Cricket Club is situated in Dairy Lane three miles south of Evesham off the A46.

The Ray Julian X1-Dumbleton CC forms part of the Dumbleton Cricket Festival.

It will include a Daryl Mitchell Benefit Day on July 28 for the Worcestershire CCC skipper as part of his 2016 benefit year starting at 10am.

Daryl's father Keith played for Dumbleton for many years.
