Tom Fell continued his fine form to lead a Worcestershire recovery on the opening day of the LV = County Championship match with Glamorgan at New Road.
Fell followed up his maiden Championship hundred against Leicestershire at Grace Road by hitting an unbeaten 81 by tea as Worcestershire recovered from 39-3 to reach 171-4 off 64 overs.
Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell elected to bat after winning the toss and the home side gave a Championship debut to opener Richard Oliver after his 292 not out for the second eleven last week against Warwickshire.
Oliver who survived a difficult chance at square leg off Michael Hogan, made 13 before he drove at the same bowler and was caught in the gulley by Dean Cosker.
Moeen Ali was given a standing ovation on his way to the wicket after his superb 100 for England in the second Test against Sri Lanka at Headingley.
But after making 10 he top edged an attempted pull against Rory Smith and Chris Cooke held onto the catch running back to square leg.
It became 39-3 two balls later when the in-form Mitchell (15) cut Smith to Cosker to gulley. Fell and Alexei Kervezee slowly but surely started to effect a recovery as Worcestershire reached 56-3 off 30 overs at lunch.
The scoring rate increased in the afternoon session with Fell cutting and straight driving Smith for two boundaries in an over.
Kervezee twice straight drove Hogan for four and then Fell twice cut Smith to the ropes as the 50 partnership was raised in 21 overs.
Worcestershire were also awarded five penalty runs when the ball hit one of the fielding side's helmets.
Kervezee (21) was caught behind by Glamorgan skipper Mark Wallace off Hogan with the total on 93.
But Fell was then given good support in a fifth wicket partnership with Tom Kohler-Cadmore.
A single to mid off took Fell to his half century off 125 balls with eight fours.
The pair scored freely and a boundary by Fell off Smith raised the half century partnership in 18 overs.
By tea Fell had moved onto 81 and Kohley Cadmore 22.
