Tom Fell returned to the middle for the first time in nearly three months when making his debut for Mount Lawley in the Western Australia Cricket Association first grade match with Bayswater-Morley today.
Fell went in at number four – his first knock since scoring a career best 171 for Worcestershire against Middlesex in late September and then undergoing surgery for testicular cancer.
He faced a total of 31 balls, hitting one boundary, before being third out for four with the total on 194.
But a century from former Worcestershire batsman Michael Klinger ensured that Mount Lawley enjoyed a successful first day of the two-day fixture in scoring 341-5 at Breckler Park after winning the toss.
Klinger, who now plays for Gloucestershire, made 115 and was well supported by J Newnham (86) and D Sharman (61 not out) in a match which will be concluded next weekend.
In the same competition, Alex Hepburn's side, Willetton Dragons enjoyed mixed fortunes on the opening day against home side Freemantle who opted to bat first.
Freemantle were bowled out for 209 in 73.2 overs after being 123-2 at one stage with spinner Brad Hogg returning 5-69 and Lancashire player Liam Livingstone 2-13.
Hepburn was used as the sixth bowler and sent down seven overs for 20 runs.
The Worcestershire all-rounder has yet to bat after Willetton reached 38-2 off 14 overs by the close in reply.
