Tom Fell scored a brilliant hundred – his first since getting the all clear in his double battle against cancer – to lead Worcestershire Rapids to a four wicket success in the Royal London One-Day Cup match with Lancashire Lightning at New Road.
The 22-year-old reached three figures off 104 balls with a cut for four off Lancashire spinner Stephen Parry – his 14th boundary.
It was the signal for emotional scenes with the whole ground rising to applaud Fell and there was a standing ovation from his team-mates on the boundary.
The Lancashire fielders also joined in the applause as Fell completed his first List A century as Worcestershire chased a 268 target in 50 overs.
He eventually finished unbeaten on 116.
Victory kept alive the Rapids hopes of reaching the quarter-finals ahead of their final group match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge tomorrow.
The visitors elected to bat after winning the toss on a wicket previously used for the NatWest T20 Blast clash with Birmingham Bears.
Kyle Abbott picked up two early wickets and then spinner Brett D'Oliveira and skipper Daryl Mitchell with his medium pacers bowled tidy spells in the middle of the innings.
But useful contributions from Alviro Petersen and Karl Brown before Steven Croft and Luke Procter featured in the major stand of the innings which closed on 267-7.
Abbott had recovered from the foot problem which had side-lined him for three weeks and Joe Leach, Ben Cox and Brett D'Oliveira were recalled after being rested for the tour game with Pakistan.
Abbott made the first breakthrough with 30 on the board when Tom Smith (14) skied a catch to Leach at mid off.
The South African paceman struck again as Petersen (32) nicked through to keeper Ben Cox after hitting the previous three balls for four.
Cox then held onto an edge from Liam Livingstone (18) off George Rhodes at 81-3 in the 17th over.
Brown and Croft added 64 in 16 overs before Cox claimed his third catch of the innings off Mitchell to account for the former (43).
D'Oliveira conceded just 27 runs in his 10 overs and Mitchell, despite suffering a knock to his finger, was also tidy in finishing with 1-41.
Croft was joined by Procter and the fifth wicket pair added 99 in 14 overs.
Barnard broke the partnership when Croft, who made 78 from 105 balls with one six and six fours, perished to a fine low catch by Ross Whiteley moving around from deep mid wicket.
Abbott picked up his third wicket in the penultimate over as Procter (47) went for a ramp shot and holed out to Leach at fine leg.
Then in the final over Leach gained some tangible reward as Jordan Clark (9) sucumbed to Rhodes at long off.
When the Rapids launched their reply, Mitchell (5) was caught behind by Tom Moores off Saqib Mahmood.
Tom Kohler-Cadmore, fresh from a century against Northamptonshire Steelbacks and 73 against Pakistan, again looked in prime form and straight drove Kyle Jarvis for six.
Three successive boundaries by Fell off Mahmood brought up the 50 in the eighth over.
Kohler-Cadmore made 30 off 30 balls and added 58 in seven overs with Fell until he sliced Karl Brown into the hands of deep cover.
Joe Clarke leg glanced Smith for four to bring up the 100 in the 17th over but on 25 he only succeeded in finding the hands of short extra cover off Stephen Parry.
Parry collected another scalp as Brett D'Oliveira (4) was stumped by Moores at 122-4 in the 21st over.
The game was then in the balance but Fell and Ross Whiteley tipped it in the Rapids favour during a stand of 83 in 17 overs.
Fell continued to look in excellent touch and brought up his half century off only 47 balls with eight fours.
Whiteley (38) batted sensibly to help take the total past 200 in the 37th over before he attempted to cut Croft and was bowled.
Fell then experienced his moment of joy in going to his hundred and Cox helped ensure the Rapids reached their target with a typically aggressive 31 off 24 balls in a stand of 57 in nine overs.
Cox was dismissed by Mahmood with just six runs required for victory which was eventually completed with 14 balls to spare.
