callum ferguson says himself and daryl mitchell “hold up the board for the over 30s!” in the worcestershire rapids squad after their sensational back to back hundreds in the royal london one-day cup.
mitchell, 34, showed all his experience and know how in making a brilliant century in rescuing the rapids from 93-6 in sunday’s victory over lancashire at New Road.
then 33-year-old ferguson hit a club list a record 192 in tuesday’s record run chase against leicestershire foxes for the table-topping rapids.
the australian said: “it is a blur what was said when i returned to the dressing room but they got right around me and there were a lot of very kind words.
“it’s a great bunch of lads, a really young squad and daryl and i probably hold up the board for the over 30s!
“when daryl came in after making his hundred against lancashire i said: ‘experience counts for everything, doesn’t it?’
“when i walked in after the hundred versus leicestershire, daryl said: ‘experience counts doesn’t it’ and i had a good chuckle at that.
“it was a nice touch because it was a hell of an innings by him against lancashire and he backed it up with another great knock (50 off 29 balls).
“he is a very experienced cricketer and he said it normally takes him about 150 (balls) to get 50 and i said ‘not anymore, the last two innings i’ve seen, you’ve been smacking them.’
the rapids take on nottinghamshire at trent bridge today looking to back up their stunning win over the foxes.
ferguson said: “at the half-way mark against leicestershire, a lot of people would have written us off and, to a man, everyone made a stand and to chase those down can be a real momentum builder for us going into the rest of the competition.”
