First Five Wicket Haul For Twohig Before Rhodes Hits Half Century

First Five Wicket Haul For Twohig Before Rhodes Hits Half Century

Spinner Ben Twohig achieved his first five wicket haul for Worcestershire Seconds on the opening day of the two-day friendly with Somerset Seconds at New Road.

Twohig, who played for the England Development Programme Under-17s side against Pakistan in Dubai last month, finished with 5-33 from 11.1 overs.

Malvern College pupil Twohig bowled unchanged from the Diglis End as he surpassed his previous best Second Eleven figures of 3-25 against Hampshire in a three-day fixture at New Road last September.

He is part of the county's 2014-2015 Academy intake.

One of Twohig's victims was Sam Wyatt-Haines who was dismissed in the rare fashion of hit wicket after stepping back to try and work the ball on the on side.

Somerset were bowled out for 179 in 39.1 overs on the same wicket used for last week's first team action against Gloucestershire on the Cathedral side of the ground.

The visitors lost wickets at regular intervals after electing to bat.

Fit again new ball bowler Graeme Whiles and Alex Hepburn picked up two wickets apiece.

George Rhodes continued his good form with the bat when the Seconds launched their reply.

Rhodes followed up his century against Loughborough MCCU – his second in three Second Eleven games – by making 52 off 107 balls.

He shared in a fourth wicket stand of 59 with Josh Dell (18).

Rhodes was fourth out at 113 and six wickets fell for 24 runs in 17 overs as the Seconds closed on 138-9 from 62 overs.
