Players, coaches, officials, members and supporters will be delighted to hear that Worcestershire CCC's popular first team scorer Dawn Pugh has been given the all clear in her battle against cancer.
Dawn was forced to miss the opening two thirds of the 2016 season as she fought against the illness.
The first team squad wore Yell4Fell yellow coloured shirts in support of Dawn and team-mate Tom Fell's fight against cancer and in aid of cancer charities during the NatWest T20 Blast match with Derbyshire at New Road.
Fell got the all clear in May and returned to the first team for the second half of the campaign.
Dawn was back in her key role for the Royal London One-Day Cup match with Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge on August 1.
But it is only in the last few days that she has been given the green light by the specialist in her cancer battle.
Worcestershire assistant coach-bowling coach Matt Mason said: "It was a huge blow to all the team and staff when we heard about Tom Fell's cancer diagnosis and thankfully he has come through it so well.
"Equally hard on all of us was the news about our wonderful scorer Dawn who is as big a part of our team as any player.
"Dawn has watched more cricket than most of us and I know she takes great pride in seeing the lads she once scored for in the second team progressing to the first team.
"Like all of us, Dawn feels the hurt of a loss and the thrill of a win and all the lads love having her with us.
"It is such great news that Dawn has overcome her battle with cancer……….. she is one tough lady and we would all be lost without her."
New first team captain Joe Leach said: "That is absolutely fantastic news and I'm sure all of the lads will be thrilled to hear that.
"Dawn is someone who is a valued member of the group. She comes with us to every away game and she is a big part of what we do.
"She is the first person in the changing room giving people a hug if we win and the first one to pat people on the back if we lose.
"It's a double reason to celebrate with the news about Felly earlier in the season as well and we were over the moon that he got back playing."
Worcestershire CEO Tom Scott said: "It's great news and you only have to speak to the coaches and players to know how much Dawn was missed and what she means to them all.
"Every team has important cogs in the wheel on and off the pitch and Dawn is definitely one of those.
"Like many of the players, she has moved up from the second team with great success in her own particular role."
