Worcestershire 2016 overseas signing Kyle Abbott completed his second five wicket haul in Test cricket but South Africa are on the back foot against India after day two in Delhi.
Abbott, who will be at New Road for the second half of next season, had overnight figures of 3-23 from 17 overs – and continued in the same vein when India resumed on 231-7.
The 28-year-old polished off the innings with two wickets in three balls to finish with 5-40 from 24.5 overs in his fifth Test appearance.
His efforts will give the South African selectors food for thought when Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander return to fitness.
Abbott dismissed Ravichandran Ashwin (56) who tried to pull a quicker shorter delivery and spliced a catch to AB De Villiers at mid wicket.
Then last man Ishant Sharma was trapped in his crease by a full inswinging ball and was lbw for a duck to leave India all out for 334 in 117.5 overs.
But Abbott and South Africa's satisfaction at finally ending some spirited resistance was quickly dispelled.
The Proteas were dismissed for 121 in just 49.3 overs by the close of play.
Abbott went in at number eight and made four before fell lbw to Ashwin and South Africa ended the day with a deficit of 213 and facing the possibility of being asked to follow-on on day three.
