George Chesterton MBE Passes Away

It is with great regret that we have to announce that George Chesterton MBE has passed away at the age of 90.

Martyn Price, Chairman of Worcestershire CCC, commented "George's involvement in many aspects of the Club over the years, as a player, President, and latterly his involvement with WOPA means he was well known by many of our members and supporters and he will be remembered fondly by many people."

Chesterton was a great ambassador of the game and represented Worcestershire CCC between 1950-1957. In his 47 First Class appearances for the Club, Chesterton collected 168 wickets. He later served as Club President between 1990-1993.

Chesterton had always been a keen supporter of youth cricket, and in 1991 founded The Chesterton Cup. This annual competition features schools from the Midlands with the final being held at New Road.

To honour his life, a Thanksgiving Service will be held at Malvern College Chapel on Thursday 29th November at 2-30pm.
