Alex Gidman scored his first half century in Worcestershire's colours and there were plenty of other encouraging contributions during the six wicket defeat against Derbyshire in a two day match in Abu Dhabi at the Zayed nursery ground.
There was a 50 for Tom Fell in the opening batsman's role, a useful knock from England Under-19 wicket-keeper Joe Clarke and two wickets for Charlie Morris in a match which provided valuable practice ahead of the new campaign.
The game was split into four segments with Derbyshire batting the first two sessions in their first innings and Worcestershire sessions three and four in their first innings.
Worcestershire then batted session five in their second innings and Derbyshire the final session in their second innings.
Daryl Mitchell's side resumed on 103-2 in their first innings in reply to Derbyshire's 276-3 with Gidman, signed from Gloucestershire on a two year contract, unbeaten on 30 overnight.
Worcestershire continued batting until lunch-time with Alexei Kervezee (33) helping Gidman add 68 for the third wicket before being bowled by Wayne White for 33.
Ross Whiteley (0) departed in the same manner to White when he edged to Wayne Madsen at slip.
Gidman was eventually caught and bowled by Chesney Hughes for 62 and Clarke was caught behind by Harvey Hosein off Greg Cork for 18.
Ben Cox was bowled around his legs for 14 to leave Shaaiq Choudhry unbeaten on 28 and Gareth Andrew seven not out when the Worcestershire first innings closed on 237-7.
With a deficit of 39, Worcestershire began their second innings after lunch and scored 126-3 off 27 overs by tea.
Fell and Clarke opened the innings and shared in a partnership of 89 in 20 overs.
Clarke was eventually out for a promising 43 from the first ball of the 20th over, caught by Chesney Hughes off the bowling of Shiv Thakor.
Fell reached his 50 but was immediately bowled by Chesney Hughes without addition to his score and then Andrew was bowled by Alex Hughes for nine.
Cox was unbeaten on 14 and Whiteley on three when the Worcestershire innings closed at tea.
Derbyshire were left to bat all of the final session in pursuit of a 88 target and Morris struck twice in the space of three deliveries with 23 on the board.
He bowled Chesney Hughes for 10 and Alex Hughes for a duck in the ninth over.
There was a wicket for Chris Russell when Wayne White holed out at long leg for 16 but Ben Slater (67 not out) steered Derbyshire to their target.
They continued to bat out the entire session and play ended with their total on 114-4.
