Half Century For Wiffen Before Academy Game Is Washed Out

Half Century For Wiffen Before Academy Game Is Washed Out

Worcestershire CCC Academy's one-day clash with the Midland Club Cricket Conference at Stourbridge was abandoned with the game interestingly poised.

The Academy totalled 250-6 in their 50 overs after electing to bat but there was no time for the MCCC to launch their reply before the heavens opened and brought a premature end to proceedings.

Openers Will Wade and Juhar Johal gave the Academy a solid start with a partnership of 64 in 18.1 overs.

Johal made 28 off 43 balls with four boundaries and Wade a more patient 48 off 94 deliveries with five fours.

But the real impetus of the Academy innings was provided by Adam Wiffen and Zain Ul Hassan who put on 82 for the fourth wicket in nine overs.

Wiffen, who had scored a century in the corresponding fixture last summer, top-scored with 56 off 68 balls with seven fours while Hassan made 23 off 30 deliveries.

Callum Lea chipped in with a later order unbeaten 25 off 19 balls with two sixes and the Academy total was boosted by 39 extras – including 19 no balls.

But that was the end of proceedings for the day as the weather deteriorated.
