John Hastings has vowed to show Worcestershire CCC supporters “what I am made of” in 2018 after having to cut short his first season at New Road through injury.
The Australian all-rounder returned home after suffering a foot injury during the Specsavers County Championship clash with Sussex.
The 31-year-old experienced a season of mixed fortunes after working flat out to battle his way back from patella tendon surgery during the winter in time for the start of the season.
But he is determined to make a big impact in 2018 after admitting that “the Worcestershire faithful haven’t seen the best of me.”
Hastings said: “It was very disappointing to end my first season that way with the injury. I was absolutely shattered by it to be honest.
“I just felt like I was starting to play some good cricket for Worcestershire. I gave everything for the club.
“I’m looking forward to coming back and showing the Worcestershire faithful…..they haven’t seen the best of me.
“I am still hungry to show that so hopefully I’ll come back and can really show them what I am made of.”
In terms of the injury, Hastings said: “The injury was just wear and tear and one of those things. I’m a big man so a lot of pressure goes through my ankles and knees over a long period of time.
“I just felt a bit sore. We got it nice and early which is good and it didn’t turn into anything really major.
“But Cricket Australia asked me to go back.”
In terms of Worcestershire’s season, Hastings said: “Hopefully the boys can fight really hard and get promoted and then we can really challenge.
“I thought our campaign in the One-Day Cup was brilliant and we played some really good cricket.
“We also at times played some good cricket in the T20 after getting out of the blocks a bit slowly and the Championship stuff has been outstanding.”
