Travis Head will arrive tomorrow afternoon to begin his spell with Worcestershire on the back of several impressive performances for Australia and at domestic level this winter in the latest chapter of an already distinguished career.
The left hander is available for 10 Specsavers County Championship matches, the entire Vitality Blast and majority of the Royal London One-Day Cup.
Head, 24, skippered the Adelaide Strikers to their Big Bash triumph, scoring 85 not out and 44 not out in the semi-final and final respectively against Melbourne Renegades and Hobart Hurricanes.
He hit 96 in an ODI against England at Adelaide and enjoyed a successful Sheffield Shield campaign for South Australia, including 145 versus Tasmania in Hobart.
Head has made great strides forward in the past six years since impressing playing grade cricket Down Under for Tea Tree Gully – the team George Rhodes played for last winter.
He was part of the Australian side for the 2012 Under-19 World Cup, scoring 87 off 42 balls against Scotland.
Head made his Sheffield Shield debut as an 18-year-old in 2012, scoring 90 in his third appearance against Tasmania.
He led South Australia to the 2013 National Under-19 Championships title, winning the Player Of The Tournament award for the second year running.
That same year he made his Big Bash debut for the Strikers.
Head’s first List A century came for the Australian National Performance squad against South Africa ‘A’ in 2014.
In 2015, he was appointed South Australia’s youngest ever captain in their 122 year history at 21.
Head became the third Australian to score a double century in a List A match as South Australia chased down a 351 target against Western Australia with three overs to score.
He ended with 202 from 120 balls and shared in a third wicket stand of 278 with another of Worcestershire’s 2018 overseas players in Callum Ferguson.
After 17 scores of 50 plus, Head scored his maiden first class century the following month in a one wicket win over Western Australia.
Then he celebrated on New Year’s Eve that same year by scoring a maiden T20 ton for the Strikers against Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash.
It was a remarkable display of hitting as, with three overs left, the Strikers still needed 56 to win with Head on 45.
Thanks to some amazing hitting by Head, they won with three balls to spare and he completed his hundred.
Head made his international debut against India in January 2016 in a T20I and he then led South Australia to their first Sheffield Shield final appearance for 20 years, hitting a career best 192 on the way against Tasmania.
It led to Head being voted Sheffield Shield Player Of The Year.
He played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL and an ODI debut followed that same year against the West Indies before a stint of county cricket with Yorkshire.
Head’s 50 over debut for the Tykes saw him hit 175 off 139 balls against Leicestershire and share in a club record List A partnership of 274 with Jack Leaning and lead Yorkshire to 376-3 – their highest List A score against a first class county.
In January 2017, Head was promoted to open for Australia and he scored his maiden ODI hundred against Pakistan at Adelaide.
His opening stand of 284 with David Warner was the highest ODI partnership for any wicket for Australia.
Head led South Australia to another Sheffield Shield final and averaged over 60 in the competition.
He was part of the Champions Trophy squad in England last summer and scored an unbeaten 71 against Eoin Morgan’s side.
It was this winter that he replaced Brad Hodge as captain of the Strikers and led them to a Big Bash title.
