Hepburn Handed Senior Worcs Debut After Fine Season With Seconds

Alex Hepburn has been rewarded for an excellent season of Second Eleven cricket with Worcestershire by being handed his senior debut in tomorrow's home Royal London One-Day Cup match with Leicestershire (10.30am start).

Western Australian born Hepburn has enjoyed a successful time with bat and ball for second eleven coach Kevin Sharp's side.

The 19-year-old has scored four centuries in various competitions – 113 against Middlesex at New Road, 112 against Durham at Darlington, 119 versus Unicorns at Kidderminster and earlier this week 101 against Warwickshire in the Second Eleven Trophy at Olton.

Hepburn also returned 5-66 against Leicestershire at Chester Road and had two other four wicket hauls during the season.

Paceman Chris Russell is also included for his second appearance of the summer after previously playing in the four-day tour match against New Zealand at New Road in May.

Russell scored 60 during a last wicket stand of 96 with Ben Twohig in a Championship match and picked up two wickets during his new ball spell during the drawn Championship match with Warwickshire at Flagge Meadow.

With Worcestershire unable to qualify for the quarter-finals, Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes has rested his regular pace trio of Charlie Morris, Jack Shantry and Joe Leach for more crucial battles ahead.

After Tuesday's final RLC clash away to Derbyshire, Worcestershire have four LV = County Championship matches in just over a month as they battle to stay in Division One for a second season – starting with the game against Smerset at Taunton starting on Friday.
