Hepburn’s Club Move Closer To Sealing Spot In Play-Offs

Alex Hepburn's club, Willetton Dragons, moved closer to securing a spot in the knockout stage of the Western Australia Cricket Association first grade competition with a two wicket win over Melville.

The Dragons cemented their place in the top six who qualify for the play-offs after being set a 270 target.

Worcestershire all-rounder Hepburn had returned 2-44 from 16 overs on the opening day last weekend.

He went in at number six and made eight off 29 balls with one boundary before being fifth out at 152.

But 68 from M. Johnston and an unbeaten 56 from B. Wilson, plus several other useful contributions, saw Willetton to their target.

Tom Fell's team, Mount Lawley, put up a brave fight in pursuit of a daunting target but went down by 87 runs against Subiaco Floreat in another WACA first grade encounter.

Subiaco had scored 422 all out on the opening day.

Fell, who batted at number four, made 11 off 18 balls with two boundaries before he was third out at 186.

A fine 127 off 115 balls from T. Beaton kept Mount Lawley in the hunt but they were eventually dismissed for 335 in 80.2 overs.
