Ben Cox says winning a trophy for Worcestershire “means the most to me” after his two superb knocks on Vitality Blast finals day.
The wicket-keeper batsman bounced back in style after not being selected for the Specsavers County Championship clash against Surrey to win TWO man of the match awards.
His half century in the semi-final win over Lancashire Lightning and unbeaten 46 in the final triumph over Sussex Sharks sealed glory for the Rapids.
Cox said: “It’s been a tough week. As a professional, you go through emotions and this week I’ve had both low and high.
“But to bounce back in the way I did, to put in two performances to help win a trophy for the club, that means the most to me.
“There are 11 of us out there. I just chipped in. Browny (Paul Brown) and the other bowlers did outstandingly in the first half to keep them to their total.
“In my opinion, I think we won the game in the first half and Mo (Moeen Ali) and Clarkey (Joe Clarke) set the tone perfectly and we just went from there.”
Cox admits his game plan was to see off the threat of spinners Will Beer and Danny Briggs before picking up the necessary runs against the quicker bowlers.
He said: “I found the slower bowlers were the hardest so I was just waiting to get out the back of both spinners.
“I knew I would be able to use the pace and go behind the wicket with ramps (ramp shots).
“Somedays it comes off. I’ve had plenty when it doesn’t come off and goes straight to the keeper or you get bowled or lbw.
“It was my day. Little things went my way. I chipped one just over long off. Wrighty (Luke Wright) got a hand on one. One went over the stumps.
“Little things need to go your way and they did for me.”
