Worcestershire CCC batsman Jack Haynes has started on the comeback trail – and was soon back amongst the runs.
The 18-year-old suffered the disappointment of being ruled out of England Under-19’s winter tour of Bangladesh with a foot injury.
But Haynes returned to action for Malvern College, where he is in the final year of his studies, and scored 80 in the nine wicket win over Repton School.
He then made a quickfire 25 off 33 balls with four fours when playing for the College in the traditional match against the visiting Worcestershire CCC Academy before being bowled by Reeve Evitts.
Academy product Haynes signed his first professional contract with Worcestershire last summer up until the end of the 2020 season.
He will join up with the County staff full-time after ending his studies.
Malvern College defeated the Academy by 57 runs in a 35 overs per side match.
Robbie Hardwick, with 38 off 23 balls, Daniel Brierley, 35 not out from 38 deliveries, and Luke Tulacz, 37 off 33 balls, helped the College to reach 184-6.
There was a mini mid-innings wobble at 106-5 before Tulacz and Brierley added 70 for the sixth wicket.
Evitts finished with 2-12, Freddie Fallows 2-35, Henry Marshall 1-26 and Cameron Harding 1-29.
The Academy were bowled out for 127 in 31 overs with Alex Hinkley top-scoring with 21.
Tulacz (3-30), Aaron Tomson (3-14) and Dan Holland (2-14) – a member of the Worcestershire Academy 2018-2019 intake – were the most successful bowlers.
