Worcestershire Seconds were on the receiving end of a 400 plus opening partnership between Ateeq Javid and Harry Dearden on day one of the Championship match with Leicestershire at Stourbridge.
Javid and Dearden both scored double centuries and put on 408 – the second highest opening stand against Worcestershire in the Second Eleven Championship.
The record is held by Warwickshire’s Ian Westwood and Jonathan Trott of 429 at Barnt Green in 2003.
Leicestershire opted to bat and, although there was a bit of assistance for the Worcestershire bowlers in the opening session, they did not quite find the right areas.
Javid and Dearden completed their centuries off 144 and 123 balls respectively
Worcestershire captain Alex Milton used eight bowlers in an attempt to find a breakthrough.
Dearden brought up the 300 with a six off Josh Haynes which broke the window of the football pavilion.
Josh Breed finally broke the stand to the last ball before tea when Dearden on 215 holed out to Dillon Pennington at mid on.
His 243 ball knock contained four sixes and 25 fours and surpassed his previous highest SEC score of 141.
Matt Davis picked up a wicket when Aadil Ali (33) was caught in the same position by Pennington but at the other end of the ground.
Immediately after Lewis Hill’s dismissal for 32 – caught at long on by Haynes off Yadvinder Singh – Leicestershire declared on 519-3 from 95.2 overs.
It left Javid unbeaten on 207 from 264 balls with 24 fours and he also surpassed his previous highest SEC score of 173.
Worcestershire were left seven overs batting and reached 16-1 for the loss of Tom Fell (6) who was given out lbw.
