Joe Sets Sights On Trying To Cement First Team Spot After Maiden Half Century

Joe Sets Sights On Trying To Cement First Team Spot After Maiden Half Century

Joe Clarke has revealed his determination to try and cement a spot in the Worcestershire side after scoring his maiden LV = County Championship half century against Warwickshire at New Road.

Clarke's 50 off 58 balls with nine fours was one of the bright spots in the two-day defeatin what was only his second senior appearance after making his debut against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.

He earned his chance after scoring a double hundred for the Seconds against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham College.

Clarke said: "I had quite a lot of conversations about my aspirations to be playing in the first team and how I was going to get there.

"It was quite simple in the end, just score big runs was the main focus and to get the 200 (for the Seconds), that gets you noticed really.

"I remember getting to a hundred on the first day and thinking 'I need to get a big one here if I want to put myself in contention for a first team place.'

"Luckily it happened and now I am focusing on cementing my place in the first team and getting big runs for the first team.

"I've had a taste of it now. We had a good side of a draw at Hampshire and the weather didn't help us there.

"Even playing in those two days against Warwickshire, I definitely want more of it and hopefully I can do the job, keep scoring runs."
