Josh Haynes Scores Maiden Hundred For Worcs Seconds At Taunton Vale

Josh Haynes scored his maiden century for Worcestershire Seconds in the drawn three-day encounter with Somerset Seconds at Taunton Vale.

The 17-year-old, the elder son of former County all-rounder Gavin Haynes, reached three figures in only his second match for the Seconds.

Opener Haynes finished 115 not out and his 221 ball innings contained four sixes and eight fours.

He shared in a fourth wicket stand of 172 in 42 overs with wicket-keeper Alex Milton which steered the score from 76-3 to 248-4.

Milton was eventually dismissed for 91 off 122 balls with three sixes and 12 fours.

Worcestershire declared at tea on 288-6 – just two runs behind Somerset's first innings total -and then their bowlers got in some good practice in the final session.

Skipper George Rhodes and fellow spiner Ben Twohig ended up with two wickets apiece as Somerset closed on 187-5.

Worcestershire Second Eleven coach Kevin Sharp said:"Josh has played very well, terrific, a 17-year-old in his second game, and against a strong attack which included both Overtons.

"It was a gritty innings and he showed a lot of resilience. It was good to see.

"We've got some good young players. We have got a strong Academy and it just shows you, a lad comes in his second game and gets a hundred, it is no mean achievement.

"Alex is a good player. He is at Cardiff University but he will play for us if he is not playing for Cardiff or taking his exams."

After the Seconds first three days of the summer were washed out, Sharp was delighted to play two elongated days at Taunton Vale.

He said: "We played two long days which we were able to do as it was a friendly match, extend the hours to get as much cricket as we could.

"We declared at tea so we could have another bowl and all the lads have got overs under their belts."
