Joe Leach is on course to finish in the top 10 of the Professional Cricketers’ Association Most Valuable Player Rankings in the Specsavers County Championship for the THIRD successive season.
It is an indication of the superb and consistent form demonstrated by the Worcestershire skipper since the start of the 2015 campaign.
Leach heads into the final fortnight of the season with another 63 Championship wickets under his belt – including four five-wicket hauls – and is currently occupying sixth spot.
He has accumulated 282 points at an average of 21.72.
The 26-year-old finished fifth in 2015 with 327 points at 23.34 after taking 59 wickets and then fourth last summer with 331 points at 22.03 following a 65 wicket haul.
Not far behind during the current campaign are opener Daryl Mitchell and all-rounder Ed Barnard.
Opener Mitchell, the leading run-getter in Division Two, is in 13th position with 219 points at 16.81.
Barnard, who has scored more than 500 runs and taken 43 wickets, is lying 16th with 216 points at 16.60.
Worcestershire have two other players in the top 40 in paceman Josh Tongue – 30th with 167 points at 12.83 – and batsman Joe Clarke – 150 points at 11.54.
Kent’s Darren Stevens is currently in pole position with 319 points at an average of 28.98.
The PCA MVP Rankings system identifies the match-winners and key influencers of matches throughout the domestic season.
The formula takes into account conditions, quality of opposition, captaincy and strike-rates as well as runs scored and wickets taken.
