Leach Efforts With Bat And Ball For Canberra In Vain

Joe Leach impressed with bat and ball for North Canberra but the Worcestershire all-rounder finished on the losing side to a Queanbeyan District side containing county colleague Ed Barnard in a Australian Capital Territory first grade encounter.

Leach continued the fine form on display in helping Worcestershire gain promotion from Division Two of the LV = County Championship.

Home side North Canberra were put into bat and dismissed for just 84 in 34 overs despite Leach, who batted at number four, top-scoring with 30 from 60 deliveries.

England Under-19 international Barnard bowled four overs for 24 runs after taking the new ball.

Queanbeyan were made to work to reach their modest target with Leach opening the bowling and returning 2-22 from seven overs.

Barnard was dismissed for a duck but his side reached their target in the 22nd over.

Barnard's Under-19s and Worcestershire colleague, wicket-keeper Joe Clarke, was also tasted victory for South Perth who won by seven wickets away to Mount Lawley in a Western Australia Cricket Association second grade match.

Clarke picked up two catches as Mounty Lawley were dismissed for 91 and made two in Perth's chase of their modest target which was reached in the 28th over.

Alex Hepburn made 17 as Willetton Dragons were narrowly beaten by Scarborough in a Western Australia Cricket Association first grade match.
