Mason: Players Should Be Full Of Confidence After Recent Performances

Assistant-coach Matt Mason says the Worcestershire players should be full of confidence heading to the Swalec Stadium after their performances in the drawn Specsavers County Championship matches with Gloucestershire and Essex.

The County picked up decent points hauls of 13 points versus Gloucestershire and 12 against Essex on two flattish pitches.

Four batsman scored hundreds in securing the maximum 10 batting points from those two games and the bowlers earned five out of a possible six points despite the batsman-friendly conditions.

Mason, who is also the club's bowling coach, said: "We've been a little bit unlucky with the weather in both of those games but we have been solid.

"What has been really pleasing is the way we have started the season with the bat in particular.

"We've had some big scores and there has been some great hundreds scored already so the batsmen are full of confidence heading to Glamorgan.

"The bowling group are starting to come together nicely as well. It has been tough for them, two pretty flat pitches, so they've got some valuable overs in.

"They are all looking forward to getting down to Cardiff and hopefully getting in four good days cricket and coming out with a positive result. We shoud be full of confidence with the way we have played."

Worcestershire are lying in fourth spot in the Division Two table despite the complete wash-out of the opening home game with Kent – 39 points behind leaders Essex but with a game in hand.

Mason said: "If we can win the game in hand, it will certainly bring everyone back to the field.

"There is so much cricket to go we don't want to panic just yet!

"We just need to make sure we keep winning every game we possibly can and play some really good cricket."
