Matt Mason says Worcestershire can take many positives from their performance against Durham even if rain further intervenes and thwarts their push for victory tomorrow in the Specsavers County Championship match at the Emirates.
The third day was completely washed out with Durham unable to start their second innings 170 runs in arrears and the forecast is not showing signs of a vast impreovement tomorrow.
But Assistant Coach-Bowling Coach Mason said there is no point in becoming too frustrated with the elements and to instead take encouragement from Worcestershire continuing the form so far in the game evident in last week's thrilling win over Kent at New Road.
Mason said: "These things happen. There is no point in getting too frustrated. You can't control the weather at all. It's just one of those things.
"We've played good cricket in the game, we've got ourselves in a strong position but we can't change what is happening (with the weather).
"At this stage, we are going to take 12 points from this match unless we can get out there tomorrow and push for a win so we will just have to wait and see what the weather is doing tomorrow."
The game is mirroring the corresponding game two years ago when Worcestershire were in control, lost a day's play and had to set Durham a shortened target rather than bat them out of contention.
As a result Durham were able to win by three wickets and that defeat in the penultimate game ended Worcestershire's gallant hopes of Division One survival they had fought so hard to try and achieve.
Mason said: "Rain has frustrated us several times over the years. It can happen. Sometimes it can work in your favour but often it works against you.
"Regardless of what happens here, we will walk away from the game either with the points we've already got or potentially with a win and be happy with how we've played and just move onto the next game.
"We've shown some good stuff here and that's the way we want to go especially after that good win in the last match (versus Kent) so we keep the momentum going.
"We've come up against a side here with the likes of Ben Stokes, Mark Wood and Chris Rushworth, a fantastic seam attack, and we've acquitted ourselves well against them.
"They've also got some good players in their batting line-up, Jennings, Collingwood and Co. We've acquitted ourselves really, really well and it's good to keep that good form going."
