Mason Praise For Performance Of County Players Down Under

Worcestershire assistant coach Matt Mason has praised the form of the county's players in action in Australia this winter.

Richard Oliver, Ben Cox, Jack Shantry, Joe Leach, Joe Clarke, Ed Barnard and Ross Whiteley have all made sizeable contributions in grade cricket since early October.

Oliver (2), Clarke, Barnard and Whiteley have all made centuries for Geelong City, South Perth, Queanbeyan District and Prospect CC respectively.

The seven will shortly end their spell Down Under and link up with their colleagues for Worcestershire's pre-season tour of Abu Dhabi in early March.

Mason, who is also the county's bowling coach, said: "It is great to see the lads have done well because in the past when we've had lads go over, we've been a little disappointed with their contributions.

"What you want is first class cricketers dominating club cricket and that's what they have been doing.

"We've been in touch with them pretty regularly and they all seem pretty happy with the way they are going.

"How could you not be when you are out in the sun for six months and we are all stuck in Malvern in the cold!

"The main thing is they are contributing and getting better and that's the whole point of them going away."
