Paceman Matt Henry wants to help Worcestershire to "win some titles" and is hoping his experience in England will help to cement his spot in the New Zealand Test side.
Henry has linked up with Worcestershire for the first half of the campaign until the end of June and is in line to make his debut in Sunday's opening SpecSavers County Championship clash with Kent at New Road.
The 24-year-old has made the breakthrough in all formats of the game with the Black Caps although he was not part of the squad for the recent ICC World T20 in India.
He has happy memories already of New Road as his performance in last May's tour game with Worcestershire helped secure Henry a spot in the Test side to face England at Lord's.
But now Henry is looking forward to playing his first spell of county cricket as he follows in the footsteps of current New Zealand team-mates Colin Munro and Mitchell McClenaghan in playing for Worcestershire.
Matt looked forward and revealed his ambitions in a question and answer session with the Worcestershire CCC website.
Question: How have you settled in?
Matt Henry: "Really good. It is nice to be here and meet everyone. Everyone has welcomed me into the team and it has been really nice."
Question: What was the goal behind you wanting to play county cricket?
Matt Henry: "I've been here on previous tours and played against county cricketers and county teams so it is nice to be here as part of a team.
"The main thing is I wanted to play some cricket and just keep developing my game and keep learning as much as I can in different conditions.
"I want to try and cement myself in that Test arena so coming here and playing some first class cricket, will really help me to develop my game as well as the T20 stuff as well.
"I'm looking forward to playing with a great bunch of guys and hopefully we can win some titles."
Question: Is the first goal promotion?
Matt Henry: "It will be great to be part of a team to push ourselves back into the top division and everyone is really excited.
"It's a bunch of guys who are really keen to do well. It's good to be part of this kind of team."
Question: "You have broken into the New Zealand team in all formats during these last 12 months?
Matt Henry: "It has been an amazing last couple of years with being involved with the New Zealand team and is something I've really enjoyed.
"I want to try keep pushing forward and developing my game especially in the Test side.
"I want to keep being involved and it's an area of my game I want to develop and have some success at.
"It's a big part of me coming over to England and just getting some more overs under my belt and to just keep trying to push for that spot in the team."
Question: Did you speak to Colin Munro and Mitchell McClenaghan about Worcestershire?
Matt Henry: "Munners and Mitch both speak very highly of this club and so I always knew I was going to be in good hands coming here.
"When I got an opportunity to come and play for Worcestershire, it was quite an exciting one and I took it with both hands."
Question: How impressed are you with the view and the Cathedral?
Matt Henry: "It is beautiful. I am really looking forward to going have a good look around. The town is beautiful.
"I've only been here a couple of days and had a walkaround and really enjoyed what I saw. It is a little bit cold at the moment but hopefully it will warm up.
"It is a great place to live what I've seen so far. It is really relaxed and the people are nice and friendly and it is always nice to come to a place like that."
Question: "You did well in the tour game last year at Worcester?
Matt Henry: "It was great. We had a nice close game and there was a battle to get into the Test side.
"That is the beauty of New Zealad cricket at the moment, we've got so much depth with the bowling.
"There is plenty of competition for spots. It was great to come here and go onto make my Test debut."
Question: Were you disappointed not to get picked for the ICC T20 squad?
Matt Henry: "It is always disappointing missing out on those things but the balance of the side was always going to go with the extra spinner.
"It wasn't a surprise. I'd already had a talk to Hess (coach Mike Hesson) so I kind of knew where I stood with that so it was no massive shock.
"But you always want to be in every side."
Question: How much of the ICC World T20 did you watch?
Matt Henry: "I watched all of it. I watched it with lots of interest. The New Zealand guys did so well. It was awesome to see.
"It was a shame they couldn't quite take it out but the guys did a fantastic job to get to where they did (the semi-finals).
Question: "Only one team is promoted in the County Championship this year. How important is it to get off to a good start?
Matt Henry: "Massively. It is always nice to start the season strong. Everyone is really keen to get into it and is in great spirits so I'm looking forward to getting out there and playing with the guys."
Question: Finally Mitchell Santner will be on a high after his ICC World T20 performance?
Matt Henry: "Mitch has had a great start to his career. He is a great bloke and a very good cricketer.
"He is looking forward to coming over here to Worcestershire as well and I'm sure he will do well."
