Mitchell And Clarke Out In Front In Battle To Reach 1,000 Runs

Daryl Mitchell is leading the race to become the first Worcestershire player to score 1,000 Specsavers County Championship runs this summer.

The long-serving opener is the fifth highest run-scorer in Division One with 791 at an average of 39.55.

Mitchell is just ahead of Joe Clarke who has totalled 727 runs at 38.26.

The duo are looking to emulate Tom Fell who reached four figures when Worcestershire were last in the top flight in 2015.

Mitchell and Clarke have both scored three hundreds this summer.

On the bowling front, all-rounder Ed Barnard has amassed 42 wickets including four five-wicket hauls – alongside nearly 400 runs.

It follows on from last year when Barnard picked up 47 wickets and scored almost 700 runs in Division Two.

Next in line is Josh Tongue on 33 wickets and who has put his three month injury lay-off behind him by playing a trio of Championship matches against Yorkshire, Lancashire and Hampshire in just over a fortnight.
