Mitchell And Gidman Team Up As Part Of New Look Slip Cordon

Mitchell And Gidman Team Up As Part Of New Look Slip Cordon

Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell is hoping to form a "formidable partnership" with newcomer Alex Gidman as part of the slip cordon for the 2015 campaign.

Mitchell demonstrated his safe pair of hands behind the wicket last season when fielding at second slip – a role he has predominantly occupied since Graeme Hick's retirement.

But now he will have a new partner to his left in Gidman who demonstrated his capabilities at first slip with a trio of fine catches during last week's friendly with Gloucestershire at New Road.

Mitchell said: "Hopefully we can form a formidable partnership.

"It is always a really important part of the game, catching. They say catches win matches so the higher percentage of catches you can take, the less work the bowlers have to do.

"Hopefully we can catch well as an eleven. It is something we work extremely hard on. There are a lot of hours that go into it.

"It's not something that happens overnight but hopefully we can keep taking those chances when they come.

"I'm going to stay at second slip and since Hicky (Graeme Hick) retired I've myself found a home there.

"Giddo occupied first slip at Gloucestershire so that fits in quite well. "We are lucky, we've got some good slip fielders now, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Tom Fell, both very good slippers with a good set of hands.

"We are quite well blessed in that department."
