Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell has challenged the club's crop of promising youngsters to demonstrate their talent on a more consistent basis during the 2014 campaign.
Mitchell and the remainder of the squad have just returned from a 11 day pre-season tour in Abu Dhabi in which they played a series of matches against Ireland, Netherlands, Derbyshire and New Zealand in various formats of the game.
The 30-year-old saw encouraging signs at various times last season but wants that potential to be produced week in and week out as the county continue their build-up this week to the new campaign with a three day friendly against Somerset at Taunton starting on Wednesday.
Mitchell, who is approaching his 10th season as a first team player, said: "I think we showed what we are capable of last season.
"But it's a case of performing to that level week in and week out, simple as that. We didn't do it enough last year and that's something we will be striving to do.
"There were some highs but too many lows for my liking and we need to find a formula that can be a little bit more consistent this time."
Mitchell hopes the conveyor belt of young talent being developed at New Road will reap the benefit from last season's experience.
He said: "The more you play, the more experience you get and the more consistent you become. But I don't think we can keep hiding beyond the fact that we are a young side.
"These young players need to start producing. There are a lot of guys now who have played a fair amount of first class and List A cricket.
"These guys really need to be doing it week in and week out."
Worcestershire will launch their home warm-up programme next Monday with a one-day game against Gloucestershire at Kidderminster.
