Mitchell Hails “much Improved” Cox After Excellent Start To Campaign

Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell believes wicket-keeper Ben Cox has become "a much improved cricketer" this season.

Cox scored his maiden first class century last week in the drawn game against Hampshire at New Road.

In addition he has registered two other two half centuries – 89 in the home game with Kent and 64 against Surrey at the Kia Oval.

Cox's performances behind the stumps have also impressed and he earned glowing praise from his Essex counterpart James Foster following the recent match between the counties at New Road.

Mitchell echoed those sentiments and said: "I was pleased for Coxy to get his maiden first class hundred and we are seeing a much improved cricketer with him this season.

"Bumpy (Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes) deserves credit for sticking by Ben over the last few years.

"But Coxy himself deserves even more for the way he has worked so hard to improve his game.

"He has done a lot of work in the gym to get fitter and stronger and his keeping has improved massively too."
