Mitchell Hopeful Of Rapids Return And Targeting Four More Wins

Mitchell Hopeful Of Rapids Return And Targeting Four More Wins

Worcestershire Rapids skipper Daryl Mitchell is optimistic of returning to action this evening – and believes his side need four more wins to make sure of a NatWest T20 Blast quarter-final spot based on past history.

The Rapids visit Leicestershire Foxes for a 5.30pm start and then tomorrow entertain Notts in the live Sky Sports clash which gets underway at 2.30pm.

They currently top the North Group – in addition to lying second in the Royal London One-Day Cup after a successful spell of white ball cricket.

Mitchell said: "We have won four out of five, so judging by previous years you need to win eight to guarantee qualification (in the T20 Blast).

"We are half way there and two wins this weekend would stand us in really good stead going forward in this competition.

"But you have to take each game as it comes, starting on Friday.

"Leicestershire have got some dangerous players, so if we can try and win that one we will have a real tough one against Notts, who are a fantastic side with the players they have got in their squad."

Mitchell suffered a side injury in the nets ahead of last Friday's home clash with Northamptonshire Steelbacks.

He said: "I have a bit of side strain, but that’s hopefully cleared up. I trained on Tuesday afternoon and came through pretty well after that.

"I was hoping to play against Leicestershire in the 50 over game. Obviously the weather curtailed that, but hopefully I should be fit and raring to go on Friday night."
