Mitchell Named In Bbc County Team Of The Season

Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell has been named in the BBC county cricket team of the season.

Mitchell's superb season was recognised by BBC local radio commentators who report on the game throughout the summer.

The 30-year-old scored more than 1,300 runs in the LV = County Championship and also finished as Worcestershire's leading scorer with 372 in the NatWest T20 Blast.

BBC Midland Sport's Ged Scott wrote: "Worcestershire's success in being promoted for the fifth time in 12 years undoubtedly owed an enormous amount to Saeed Ajmal's 63 wickets in nine matches.

"But it was still an outstanding achievement to do it with such a young team so soon after the loss of their talisman Alan Richardson – now bowling coach at Warwickshire – and without Moeen Ali for much of the season.

"The figurehead was their skipper, Worcestershire-born Daryl Mitchell, who marshalled his inexperienced troops, while leading by example at the crease.

"Despite an end of season slump, three centuries in his first six innings helped him plunder a career-best best summer's haul of Championship runs."

The full line-up chosen by the BBC is:

Adam Lyth (Yorkshire)

Daryl Mitchell (Worcestershire)

Ed Joyce (Sussex) Rikki Wessels (Nottinghamshire)

Sam Hain (Warwickshire)

Adil Rashid (Yorkshire)

Sam Billings (Kent)

Jeetan Patel (Warwickshire)
