Mitchell Reveals Pride At Skippering County In Anniversary Year

Daryl Mitchell has revealed his pride at captaining Worcestershire CCC in their 150th Anniversary Year.

The club was officially formed on this date – March 3 – at a meeting in 1865 held at the Star Hotel, Foregate Street, now the Whitehouse Hotel.

As a supporter of the club before he played for them, Badsey-born Mitchell is aware of the significance of the occasion.

The county's opening batsman and 2014 leading run-scorer said: "It is amazing to think the club is 150 years old. Even Bumpy (long-serving Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes) wasn't around then!

"It is a massive thing for the club, the 150th year, and I'm sure there will be another 150 years to come.

"The club will be here long after we're all gone. It's all about trying to do the club justice and enjoying the year.

"There will be some great events put on by the club and a lot of media coverage about the 150th year.

"Being a local lad who supported the team as a lad, it's a huge honour to be captain of the club in this prestigious year."
