Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell believes himself and Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes face some "real selection headaches" because of the strength in depth the squad now possesses.
Mitchell is confident "probably 15 or 16 players" are currently in contention to face Yorkshire in the opening LV = County Championship game at New Road starting on Sunday, April 12.
The opening batsman was impressed with the performance of the county attack in bowling out Gloucestershire for 168 on Friday at the county's headquarters on the second day of a two-day clash.
Mitchell, skippering the side against Warwickshire at Edgbaston today at the start of a two-day friendly, said: "I think for the first time since I've been captain, you looked at selection and think there are some real headaches in a good way with the squad depth we've got now.
"There are probably 15-16 guys that are capable of playing in that first game.
"It's important we have a look at everyone, we tried to do that in Abu Dhabi, give everyone opportunities to stake their claim for that first game proper if you like.
"I saw all of the Gloucestershire innings on Friday and it was great to watch the guys perform the way they did. It was an exemplary seam bowling performance. All the lads bowled exceptionally.
"You could count the amount of bad deliveries on one hand. It was a really impressive showing and something we strive for is that discipline and we attack that top of off stump and all four of them did it."
