Mixed Fortunes For Seconds In T20 Double Header

worcestershire seconds experienced mixed fortunes in their two t20 matches against their northamptonshire counterparts at New Road today.

the home side won game one by seven wickets with skipper ollie westbury registering a half century.

but they went down by nine wickets in the second game.

in game one northamptonshire were put into bat and looked set for a sizeable score after reaching 95-1 from 10 overs.

but they were pegged back during the second half of their innings and closed on 168-4.

triallist liam grey struck an early blow for worcestershire when he had charlie thurston caught behind.

jack potticary (48) and ben curran (57) added 100 for the second wicket but george rhodes bowled a tight spell and ryan gibson picked up two wickets.

rhodes (42) and westbury then gave their side a fine start with a stand of 84 in 8.2 overs before the former was dismissed.

westbury and keeper alex milton then added another 50 in 5.5 overs.

after making 57 with one six and nine fours, westbury set off for a single after hitting the ball to mid on but milton did not leave his crease and the opener was run out after attempting to regain his ground.

josh dell (7) fell cheaply but milton (39 not out from 29 balls) and gibson (14 not out) saw the county to victory with two overs to spare.

in game two worcestershire were put into bat and westbury (1) was run out for a second time following a mix up with rhodes after failing to beat ben curran’s throw from deep cover.

rhodes (31) was caught behind after adding 45 for the second wicket with gibson (41).

there were useful contributions from dell, milton and nick hammond as worcestershire reached 168-8.

northamptonshire reached their target in 14.3 overs with thurston – 77 not out off 41 balls – and curran – 62 not out from 35 deliveries – adding an unbroken 149 in 11.4 overs.

andy carter claimed the one wicket to fall with potticary (17) caught at deep mid wicket.

rhodes did not take the field for the northants innings.
