Moeen Ali ended England's frustration by breaking a last wicket century partnership on the second day of the first Investec Test with India at Trent Bridge.
The Worcestershire all-rounder claimed the wicket of Bhuvneshwar Kumar who was caught at mid on by Joe Root for 58 from 149 balls with five fours.
It was the first wicket of the innings for Moeen who bowled a series of short spells and finished with figures of 1-97 from 18 overs on a wicket offering little assistance to spin.
He had taken three wickets in his two Test appearances against Sri Lanka in the part-time spinner role – including Kumar Sangakkara twice.
Kumar and Mohammad Shami had joined forces at 346-9 after India had lost four wickets for two runs after lunch.
The pair put on 111 with Shami remaining unbeaten on 51 from 81 deliveries with six boundaries.
India were finally all out for 457 from 161 overs.
England closed the second day on 43-1 from 17 overs with skipper Alastair Cook dismissed for five by Shami.
Moeen will be hoping he can repeat his performance against Sri Lanka at Headingley when he made an unbeaten 108 after batting all through the final day.
