Moeen Finishes As Rapids Leading Six Hitter In Blast Group Stages

Moeen Ali finished as Worcestershire Rapids leading six-hitter in the group stages of the Vitality Blast – even though he played less than half of the matches.

The England all-rounder has cleared the boundary ropes on 16 occasions in just five innings.

Seven of those sixes came last Friday in Moeen’s splendid century in the victory over Birmingham Bears at Edgbaston which sealed top spot in the North Group for the Rapids.

The Rapids official Blast captain also struck four sixes when making 65 in the away win over Notts Outlaws at Trent Bridge.

The 31-year-old has an impressive strike rate of 180.57 ahead of Saturday’s home quarter-final with Gloucestershire (3pm start).

Moeen has scores of 42, 65, 25 and 115 in his last four Blast knocks before clocking up a century yesterday in the Specsavers County Championship match with Yorkshire at Scarborough.

Joe Clarke (14 from 12 matches), Ross Whiteley (13 from 13 matches) and Martin Guptill (11 from seven matches) were the other main boundary clearers for the Rapids.

Aaron Finch (Surrey) and Corey Anderson (Somerset) finished as the leading six hitters in the competition heading into the quarter-finals on 31 apiece followed by Josh Cobb (Leicestershire) on 28.
