Moeen Ali helped England to win the ODI Series against New Zealand with victory in Christchurch – and finished as his country’s most economical bowler of the players who featured in all five games.
The Worcestershire all-rounder produced another tight performance with the ball as England triumphed by seven wickets earlier today to take the series 3-2.
Moeen bowled his 10 overs for a cost of just 39 runs and accounted for Black Caps left-hander Mark Chapman who was bowled for a duck.
He ended the series with overall figures of 43-2-190-6 and conceded just 4.41 runs per over – a figure only bettered by David Willey but he played in just two matches.
Moeen’s best performance was his 3-36 in the win in Wellington which earned him the man of the match award.
Only 67 from Worcestershire 2016 and 2017 T20 Blast player, Mitchell Santner, helped New Zealand reach a respectable 223 all out in the decider after they had been 93-6 at one stage.
But then Jonny Bairstow (104) and Alex Hales (61) hurried England to a seven wicket win in just 32.4 overs.
*Ross Whiteley was dismissed for a first ball duck as his side, Multan Sultans, went down by six wickets to Lahore Qalandars in Dubai in the Pakistan Super League.
The Sultans collapsed from 92-1 to 114 all out with Whiteley bowled by 17-year-old Shaheen Afridi who finished with the remarkable figures of 5-4 from 3.4 overs.
*Joe Clarke was not part of the England Lions side beaten by 25 runs by West Indies A in the second ODI in Antigua. He had missed the opening game through illness.
