Moeen Looking To Make Another Big Impact Batting Down The Order

Moeen Looking To Make Another Big Impact Batting Down The Order

Moeen Ali will be looking to make another sizeable contribution for England batting down the order when the second day of the first Investec Ashes Test gets underway at the SWALEC Stadium later today.

The Worcestershire all-rounder again came in at number eight and will resume on 26 not out against Australia.

Moeen scored 58 and 43 on his first appearance in that position against New Zealand at Lord's in May before having a disappointing second Test at Headingley in the cold conditions.

He will initially have Stuart Broad and then Mark Wood and Jimmy Anderson to accompany him as Engand try to build on their overnight 343-7.

Moeen has already helped Jos Buttler add 50 in 9.3 overs for the seventh wicket after coming to the wicket with England on 293-6.

He got off the mark with a two through mid on off Mitchell Starc and then clipped the same bowler off his legs for a further two and three off the next two deliveries.

The 28-year-old then swept spinner Nathan Lyon for six.

Moeen survived a DRS review after being hit on the pad by Josh Hazlewood but Hawkeye showed the ball to be going over the top of middle and off.

He then pulled Hazlewood and Mitchell Johnson for boundaries before the close.
