Moeen Remains At Top Of England Pca Mvp Rankings After Hat-Trick

Moeen Ali remains at the top of England’s PCA Most Valuable Player in Test cricket rankings after his hat-trick in the win over South Africa at The Oval.

The Worcestershire all-rounder has collected 94 points this summer including 18 for his one, two, three blast to seal England’s victory two days ago.

It was the first hat-trick in 100 Tests on the ground.

Moeen will take a 12 point lead into Friday’s fourth and final Test against the Proteas at Emirates Old Trafford.

Ben Stokes is in second spot after his fine all-round performance including a century in England’s first innings.

Toby Roland-Jones has gone straight into the top five of England’s PCA MCVP overall rankings in Test cricket after his memorable debut.

The Middlesex seamer took eight wickets in the match, including 5-57 in South Africa’s first innings, and ended his debut with 51 points.

The PCA MVP Rankings system was introduced in 2007 and was designed by the players to identify the match-winners and key influencers of matches throughout the domestic season.

The formula gives full credit to those players whose performances improve their team’s chances of winning.

Points are accrued for all runs scored and wickets taken, these are then adjusted within the context of the match to take into account strike rates and economy rates.

Runs gain more points if they are scored quickly or in low-scoring contests. Top order wickets are judged more valuable than those that fall later.
