Moeen Ali can today reflect on one of his best all-round Test performances for England – topped off by a superb running catch to dismiss New Zealand last man Trent Boult in the victory at Lord's.
The Worcestershire player contributed with bat and ball in both innings as Engand fought back from a 134 run first innings deficit to win with less than 10 overs to spare in the first Ivestec Test of the summer.
The 27-year-old had two average Tests in the West Indies after recovering from a side strain in which he admitted his rhythm was lacking in his bowling.
But he bounced back to the sort of form which made him one of the five Wisden Cricketers Of The Year.
Moeen scored 58 off 107 balls with nine fours in England's first innings despite being dropped down to number eight in the batting line-up.
He then returned figures of 3-94 from 26 overs in New Zealand's first innings.
Moeen weighed in with another 43 off 80 balls with seven fours as England rallied strongly on the fourth and fifth days.
Then to top things off he took two stunning catches.
First Moeen held onto a sharp caught and bowled chance offered by Tim Southee as he ended with 1-35 from eight overs in New Zealand's second innings.
But then he was mobbed by his team-mates after moving quickly to hold onto a Boult uppercut against Stuart Broad over his left shoulder at third man to seal England's comeback.
It was an all-round ideal reminder of Moeen's talents with an Ashes series looming on the horizon.
