MOEEN Ali tasted his first victory at senior level with England as they levelled the one-day series against the West Indies with a tense three wicket victory in Antigua on Sunday evening.
Moeen had impressed on his debut on Friday when returning 1-25 in six overs with the ball and scoring 44 in an opening stand of 96 with Michael Lumb only for England to lose by 15 runs.
But the Worcestershire all-rounder was on the winning side at the same venue in the second match of the series as England reached a 160 target with 5.2 overs to spare.
Moeen, on what was the same pitch as used on Friday, struck in his second over after England skipper Stuart Broad again elected to field after winning the toss.
He deceived Keith Powell and held onto a return catch off a leading edge and dismissed him for 16.
Moeen bowled one more over and finished his only spell of the game with 1-11 from three overs as Broad used eight bowlers, including four spinners, with only Lendl Simmons (70) making a sizeable contribution.
Moeen again opened the innings in partnership with Lumb and had made 10 out of 29 when he pulled a short ball from Ravi Rampaul and was caught on the mid wcket boundary.
England were in trouble at 105-7 but an unbroken stand of 58 between Ravi Bopara (38) and Broad (28) saw them to victory.
Now Moeen will be hoping to help England clinch a series victory when the sides meet at the same venue on Wednesday.
