Moeen Ali was crowned professional player of the year at the inaugral Asian Cricket Awards which were staged at Lord's last night (Tuesday).
The England and Worcestershire all-rounder finished ahead of Warwickshire batsman Varun Chopra, Yorkshire all-rounder Adil Rashid and England and Essex all-rounder Ravi Bopara who were also on the short list.
The awards were conceived to recognise and reward inspirational Asian cricketers across the entire cricket industry.
Moeen scored his maiden Test century against Sri Lanka at Headingley and picked up 19 wickets in the five Tests against India to earn a central contract.
He also helped Worcestershire to gain promotion from Division Two of the LV = County Championship, averaging more than 60 from his eight appearances.
Moeen said afterwards: “I wish my dad (Munir) was here, he has done a lot for me.”
There was a double success for the county as Salma Bi, who plays for Worcestershire, won the Women in Cricket Award.

The Asian Cricket Awards co-founder Baljit Rihal said: “Our intention is to showcase inspirational role models.
"We are not only interested in recognising those that play the game, we also want to celebrate those that make it all happen.”
