Munro And Andrew In The Runs As Seconds Win Trophy Clash At Chester Road

Munro And Andrew In The Runs As Seconds Win Trophy Clash At Chester Road

Worcestershire Seconds chased down a 293 target with 5.4 overs to spare in a Second Eleven Trophy clash with Glamorgan at Kidderminster.

Colin Munro, Gareth Andrew and Brett D'Oliveira – all members of the Rapids NatWest T20 Blast squad – made sizeable contributions with the bat for Worcestershire.

Glamorgan elected to bat after winning the toss and Gareth Rees scored 141 off 132 balls with three sixes and 18 fours.

He was well supported by Stewart Walters in a fourth wicket stand of 119 as the visitors amassed 292-5 in their 50 overs.

Chris Russell, the Rapids last over hero hero with three wickets against Derbyshire on Friday in the T20 Blast, finished with 2-51 while there was a wicket apiece for Munro, George Rhodes and Shaaiq Choudhry.

But Graeme Whiles was Worcestershire's most economical bowler and conceded only 37 runs in his 10 overs.

New Zealander Munro honed his skills for Friday's T20 Blast derby with Warwickshire at New Road, with 77 off 53 balls with two sixes and 10 fours. He figured in stands of 57 with England Under-19 wicket-keeper Joe Clarke and 72 with Andrew who scored a run a ball 72 with three sixes and seven fours.

Andrew skippered the side and played purely as a batsman as he continued his recovery from a back problem.

A stand of 81 in 8.5 overs for the fifth between D'Oliveira and Choudhry took the home side to the brink of victory.

Choudhry fell for 46 from just 29 balls but D'Oliveira (40 not out) was still there when the running run was hit by Alex Hepburn.
